The Beatles are hitting their 70′s, imagine that. I heard that Ringo just celebrated his 70th birthday and performed on that night. The big buzz is that Paul actually showed up for a short cameo appearance. It’s about time Paul got his act together.

OK, I’ve decided that it is time to check into getting a decent security video camera and one of the security systems that I’ve seen online with ADT. They have been around for a very long time and have a good reputation, they must be doing something right considering all of their little yard signs that I see dotting the lawns around the neighborhoods.
Times are not getting any better for people. The crime rates are still on the rise, with folks getting very desperate in order to survive. Druggies are even getting bolder with their thieving in order to keep up with their habits. Home break ins are becoming an every day occurrence and making the headlines more and more. It just ain’t right. More people are buying dogs and purchasing large dogs as well in an effort to protect their home, property and their loved ones. But I’m more of a security systems type of guy at this point.
ADT offers a backup battery and equipment guide features. We are always losing power out here so having a battery backup is a must. Some times we are without power for days and that could turn into a nightmare, considering the circumstances. Crooks would and could take advantage of a long time power outage and people could get hurt. So I’m glad that I did my research online and found ADT. They have a variety of packages available according to your needs and wants, it’s all good as far as I’m concerned.
We finally have had a couple of days that we can call rainy days. We have been so hot and dry for so long, it has been totally refreshing. Instead of temperatures in the high 90′s we have enjoyed a few days in the 70′s and now the garden is looking better and better.
I had to feel bad for poor Sandra today. She had been so happy to score some cheap tickets to fly to Orlando for a week’s vacation, and she was supposed to fly back home today. Her flight was supposed to leave Orlando at 1:00pm. The flight was delayed six times before they finally took off at 5pm. When she arrived at the destination airport she wasn’t able to find her car for over an hour. She’d forgotten which level of the parking garage she had parked!
When she finally found her car, and was ready to leave, would you believe her battery was dead? Yes, it really was. She said that she got the garage attendents to give her car a jump start. She got home a full eight hours later than she was planning to get home. So she missed the high school reunion party that she had been planning to attend. She was unhappy about that; she had been planning for months to go! No, it was not a good travel day for Sandra today.
One thing is for sure, with the heat wave we’ve got going on, and the struggling economy, the ice cream business is probably one of the best businesses to be in right about now! I can remember many years ago watching a television news show about how the best businesses to be in when the economy is bad, is the pet food or the ice cream business. I’m not so sure about the pet food business right now, but with this heat, ice cream parlors are sure doing a brisk business around here!

My favorite movie that has ever been created is “Pretty Woman.” This wonderful film stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. I am obsessed with this movie, and I love watching it using Movies on Demand on my satelite tv. It is one of the most romantic films ever created.
The film also has an interesting plot with quirky characters. Julia Roberts plays an edgy role as a woman with a risque job (you can only imagine), while Richard Gere plays the role of a successful business investor. They meet in downtown Los Angeles, the heart of Hollywood to be exact. Gere asks Roberts for directions, and she responds, “For Twenty Bucks.” This is the moment when the film really begins. Gere is entranced by Julia Roberts and invites her into his gorgeous sports car (which is actually borrowed from his lawyer). As the film goes on, Gere pays Roberts to be his date to all of his corporate events. After their relationship is almost torn apart by rumors, they ultimately end up together. I love the way in which these two end up together in the film, even though they are from completely different class statuses.
If you want to watch a romantic film, then “Pretty Woman” is the perfect movie for you. Who can forget that shopping scene when Roberts finally gets what she wants in Beverly Hills?
I’m pretty handy around the place and I can do a variety of jobs myself in order to save money rather than calling in a professional. But this morning when the basement flooded with raw sewage, it was time to call a plumber. The sewage pump that I had only purchased less than a year ago stopped working and what a nasty mess I had to deal with!
It is funny how those all too familiar blue tarps really catch your eye, in people’s yards and on many trucks that are loaded with materials that can’t get wet. I personally have never liked the look of a blue tarp and I’m glad that they are now making them in different colors that aren’t as bright and gaudy looking. I mean really, if you have a bright green truck that you take pride in the way it looks, why would you want a bright blue tarp distracting from the way it looks.
Maybe I’m just a bit too picky, but I guess it’s just a thing with me. I much prefer a clear tarp, or a nice clean looking canvas tarp, they just look a bit more classy all the way around. Having access to the Internet you can even find numerous sites that offer custom made tarps that really look sharp. Next time I have a need to replace any of my tarps you can bet that I’ll be taking advantage of some of the good deals that I have seen online lately, much better than Home Depot, Lowes or Walmart has to offer, I can tell you that!
The 4th of July turned out to be a really hot day that didn’t cool off much by the time the fireworks were scheduled to start. The heat made people a bit grumpy, there just didn’t seem to be enough to liquids to keep everyone hydrated, but we all survived.
It was too bad that there were several injuries reported on the news the next day, due to fireworks malfunctioning. It seems to happen each and every year. Such a shame to hear that a day that is supposed to be fun turns out in disaster.
My wife and I are at the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to our decorating tastes. When we talk about redecorating, I’m always suggesting going with modern designs such as Minka Aire Ceiling Fans and lights by Hubbardton Forge or Artemide. I really love the clean and modern feel of their designs. My wife, however, prefers what she calls the “traditional” look.
Ever since I brought home and installed the super-modern ceiling fan in her studio, I don’t think she will ever let me shop for lights for our house again. She tried to act pleased, but I could tell that she was biting her tongue hard when she saw what I bought. I tell her that she just needs to think of our house as eclectic.
I think that I have a pretty good idea why so many young adults feel entitled to start at the very top of everything that they do. In addition to being spoiled rotten by their parents, the electronic age we are in makes it amazingly easy to get instant gratification in so many ways. When I was in school, for example, if I needed Statistics help I would have had to ask my teacher in school to recommend a Statistics tutor to study with after school. Then most of the time, I’d have to pay some real money for the service!
But now, with the Internet such an embedded part of our lives, it is easy to get free Statistics help online in the comfort of your own home. No longer will the Statistics problems the students are struggling with need to wait until the next day; just a few mouse clicks and the students get all the help they need! Yes, today’s children certainly live the life of Riley!
My wife’s car is driving me crazy! The brake lights are intermittently not working. Sometimes they are fine, sometimes they don’t work. I’ve taken the car to the shop three times now and asked them to fix it, and they keep telling me that they are working fine when they check it. They even gave me an inspection sticker for the car! I think that they were just being lazy and didn’t want to troubleshoot the wiring. I really can’t blame them for not wanting to do that, it will be a pain in the neck to do it. But I guess I’m going to have to break down and do it myself, it needs to be done!
If it’s one thing I’ve learned in the past couple of decades, is that there really is no such thing as financial security. So many of my elderly relatives went to work for companies that had absolutely no retirement plan whatsoever, and now that they have retired they are dismayed to learn that they can’t survive on Social Security alone. That is why my wife and I have started to get involved in saving our money in various ways in preparation for retirement.
To start out with, we each have IRA Accounts that we try to contribute to every year. That’s a lot harder to do than you can imagine! My wife has learned a little bit about Stock Trading and takes advantage of the companies that you can buy stocks from directly and then reinvest the dividends from them. She’s bought into a few companies using Online Trading services as well. We don’t have much money to invest, but we are trying hard to divest it so that we don’t have all of our eggs in one basket.
I’ll never understand why people are so thoughtless that they will throw used bubble gum on the ground. I think that people that do that must have a mean streak in them. I normally don’t step in gum; I tend to be observant enough to avoid them. But in the last week I’ve stepped in gum TWICE! Very irritating; that stuff just does not want to come off! I guess I should just be glad that I noticed it before getting into the truck, or walking into the house. Getting gum out of carpet is not something I want to have to deal with! And, I guess I should be grateful that it wasn’t some animal’s scat that I stepped in!
A couple of buddies of mine are planning a trip to New York City and have asked me if I would like to come along. They are thinking that the end of September would be a good time to hit “The Big Apple” it sounds good to me. The holidays are the best time to go to the big city, but the crowds are a pain, so September might just turn out to be a good choice for us.
There are so many things to see and do in New York. Of course we will make sure and see some good shows while we are there. I have been asked to check out some of the venues online, since I am pretty good on the computer, so I have taken some time to see what type of shows are going to be running them. The Internet makes this task a much easier one to take on. I’ve checked into some IZOD CENTER TICKETS as well as some JONES BEACH THEATRE TICKETS and they are much more affordable then I first thought, which is a pleasant surprise. New York isn’t known for being cheap what-so-ever, if you know what I mean!
It will be too late in the year to utilize any of the Central Park Summerstage TICKETS that are being heavily advertised, but that is all right, there is a huge variety of events to pick from and I have my work cut out for me trying to please every one’s taste, wants and needs, but I’m up for it and look forward to the challenge.
With so many shows on the TV that are such a turn off to me, I’m grateful for channels like the Discovery Channel, The History Channel and The Animal Planet Channel. It’s Me or The Dog is really a good show, Victoria has helped a tremendous amount of people with their doggie issues and I think that she is in for a long career with The Animal Planet.
Myrtle Beach has always been a great place to get-a-way to. It was one of our favorites back in the day for the whole family to take our vacation to, something for everybody could be found at Myrtle Beach. I haven’t been able to visit Myrtle Beach in several years and I look forward to seeing the changes that have taken place since I’ve been there last.
I reserved a bit of my tax refund money for a nice summer vacation this year, it has been a long year and a vacation is way over due. I found a great Myrtle Beach hotel online at http://avistaresort.com. The Avista Resort is one of the many oceanfront resorts located in the North Myrtle Beach area and it has been designated as America’s “Number One Family Beach” I like that it is only two walkable blocks away from the famous Main Street that has such a wide variety of things to see and to do.
There are tons of resorts in Myrtle Beach that can be checked out on the Internet, what a great way to find the best one to suite my needs and wants. I look forward to playing a few rounds of golf while I’m there. I come from a family of golfers and we used to always make time to play a game or two during the family vacations back in the 70′s, it’s a good sport for the whole family to enjoy all year round.

I usually have the TV on when I’m on the computer. Tonight America’s Got Talent was on and there is usually a fair amount of good talent to be found on that show, but tonight was god awful, one of the contestants actually fell off of the stage right when the buzzer was buzzing to get them out of there. How embarrassing!
As much as I would love to be able to cruise the streets in a brand new bmw m5, my tax refund check wasn’t even being close enough to being hefty enough to afford that kind of vehicle, yet. My refund check was a good one this year and I have been doing a ton on research online ever since I sent in all the paperwork to the I.R.S back in March. At first I was pretty much dead set on purchasing a Subaru, whether its was a subaru legacy or a subaru outback, that took some time to figure out which would be the best choice for my needs and wants. I even went to a local Subaru dealership and took some test drives on several of their models that they had on the lot. They were some sweet vehicles, I can tell you that!
After talking up the Subarus with friends and family these past couple of months, I kept being told how great the toyota land cruiser is so I took the time to check into that make and model of Toyota. The Car Connection has a great website that made the whole process a much easier task to take on. The Internet sure makes things a lot easier when looking for a large purchase such as this. I remember the days of having to drive from dealership to dealership, in and out of town in order to find the perfect vehicle, what a long and painful process that was. I’m glad that I didn’t have to deal with numerous car salesmen in order to get all the information that I needed this time around!
Isn’t she a pretty looking SUV? She is big and she is powerful with her V-8 under the hood that will be sporting a nice denim blue color paint job on her.
One of the challenges of living here in Maine is maintaining our rural mailboxes. In the winter, many mail boxes are struck by snow plows as the plows are clearing the roads of snow and ice. And when that happens, the boxes don’t just lean over a little bit, they are usually completely knocked down. When that happens, the rural mail carrier cannot deliver the mail to those Residential Mailboxes. So then the poor sap has to go to the Post Office to pick up their mail.
There have been times when I’ve gone to a Fair and seen a few vendors who try to sell snow-plow proof mailboxes. Their products do look like they could withstand the snow plow, but they are expensive. I have not seen any of them on any of the roads that I drive down yet. I think that most folks around here would rather gamble on their boxes not getting hit than spend the extra money on a plow-proof box.
