Whenever I need to buy gifts for my kids, I try to buy them funny t-shirts.  When I travel, rather than buy a souvenir that just collects dust, I try to find funny t-shirts that somehow represent the area that we were visiting.  I try to matc up the funny t-shirts with the personality of the recipient.  That way there is a greater chance that it will actually get worn.  I know that there have been a lot of times that they have worn some of the shirts to school and the teachers (and other kids) got a good laugh out of them.

I’ve found that the Internet is often a good place to go if I’m looking for some specific shirt for a gift for a birthday or other gift giving occassion.  I enjoy looking for them in the comfort of my own house in those cases, so I don’t have to paw through a selection at the store.  Locally there really isn’t a great selection in these stores, so I depend more on the Internet or catalogs for that.

I was really delightfully surprised to see this outrageously funny commercial during the Superbowl! I thought it was extremely clever! What a riot to see Leno and Oprah promoting the Dave Letterman show!

Well, it is certainly not my favorite time of year right now.  It is tax time!  My wife and I usually buy one of those software programs – either Turbo Tax or the H & R Block Tax Cut to help us with our taxes.  We got really tired of paying an accountant hundreds of dollars to do our taxes when we found out that we could do it ourselves for so much less money!  We’ve been trying very hard to make sure that our quarterlies were filed and that money has been sent in to cover all of our tax liabilities, but we always get nervous and worry that there might be something that we overlooked through the year that will come back and bite us in the back-side when we actually file.

I like how there is a lot of helpful tax information available on line from the IRS.   And I know that we call call them on the phone for guidance, too.  If we wanted to, we could even make an appointment with the IRS to have them prepare our taxes for us!  I’m not quite sure how I feel about that, though!   With this economy, I hope that I won’t have to apply for any emergency loans if I end up having to pay a lot of taxes!

It’s good to see Rod Stewart still out there performing. I hear that he is really tired of his old songs that made him so rich and famous. That’s too bad, those are the songs that we all grew up loving and listening to. Songs like Maggie May, Hot Legs and Forever Young are classics.

I’ve never really gotten into the different artists through out the years and all of their various works and pieces. I’ve been to a few galleries in my lifetime but it isn’t something that I claim to know much about although I do know some folks that are quite knowledgeable about particular artists and their work. One friend (actually a co worker) of mine just recently found some shepard fairey prints online that he is excited about and was showing off at work today. It’s been pretty slow at work because of the extreme weather conditions so we’ve had some time to just kick back and surf the Internet and talk amongst ourselves.

I wasn’t really aware of this shepard fairey art, but when he showed us the HOPE Poster with President Obama I realized who this street artist was that he was so excited to find at shepardfaireyprints.com. There is a ton of authentic shepard fairey artwork there to enjoy and purchase. A good selection of their out of print materials can be found there as well. An interesting artist who has come along way in recent years. Check him out some time there, it’s all good!
