I think that it is wonderful that there are so many baby proofing products on the market today. I don’t remember most of these products being available when my kids were babies/toddlers. I’m sure that if they had been available we would have used every single one of them! Our kids were into everything imagineable, and they wore us out chasing after them! That’s probably why our parents used playpens when we were little – so they wouldn’t have to chase us around!
But our kids absolutely would not tolerate playpens once they learned how to crawl. So we went the route of baby gates, outlet covers and child safety locks instead. It was a struggle, keeping the children away from so many things that could harm them. I know my wife misses the kids being little, but it is a big relief that we don’t have to chase them all over the house anymore! That is at least until we have grandchildren!
I like to look at funny/entertaining things on You Tube. If I find something I like, sometimes I will put it here on my blog. But I have to tell you that there is a lot of stuff that claims to be funny that simply is not funny at all. Not even stupid funny. Makes me wonder if I’m downloading some stupid virus without my knowledge while I’m watching the not-funny video! Sometimes I fight the urge to leave a comment asking what is so funny about that not-funny video. Trust me, I’ve got a pretty good sense of humor. I just have to shake my head at some of that garbage!
In a mobile society such as ours, having the Internet is more than a convenience, and more than entertainment. The Internet has become a valuable resource in many ways. Many people are able to research topics for their school assignments. Many people can use it to find demographic information about an area that they are interested in moving to. With just a few clicks of a button, you can find out just about anything you want to know about Miami, FL; the demographics, the crime rate, and where the local businesses are.
Although I can remember a time in my life when I depended solely on paper telephone books, and had to go to the Public Library for research, it is amazingly simple to research almost any city. My brother told me that he is thinking about moving to either Pittsburgh, PA or Charlotte, NC because of a job opportunity. Within moments we can find a lot of different local businesses in either city. And I think that knowing what the local businesses are will tell you a lot about a place, don’t you?
Do you text? I don’t. I think that if someone wants to contact me they can pick up the phone and call me. I think that paying for text messages is outrageous! I hear many of my buddies complaining that their teenagers cell phone bills are hundreds of dollars every month because of the text message charges! As for me, when I got my cell phone package I told the cell phone company to block all text messages. Sorry kids – you’ll have to live without it!
Sid tells me that he was just given a couple of NFR tickets 2010 and he wants me to go with him! It seems that he had entered a raffle of some kind and the tickets were one of the prizes for the raffle! He never thought in a million years he would win the raffle! Well now we have to take a look at our schedule and finances and see about being able to take off and go with him.
The biggest drawback I can see is the timing of the event – they are held in December, which is usually a very busy time for my business. So I’ll have to look around and see if I can sweet talk one of my friendly competitors to fill in for me during that time frame. I hope that won’t be a problem, since I’ve always filled in for them when they needed (or wanted) to take a vacation!
Besides, I’d love to take some time and do a little gambling in Las Vegas while I’m there! Sounds like a double-your-fun kind of vacation! It is going to be interesting to see how we come up with the plane tickets and hotel reservations!
I remember hearing the Big Bopper’s song Chantilly Lace on the radio, but I don’t think I ever saw him on TV. I was surprised to be able to find a video of him performing on YouTube! When I found this video, I grabbed my wife and made her dance with me. She thought I was crazy! But it was fun!
I can remember when I was a teenager, it was very difficult to buy tickets to go to events. First of all, teenagers didn’t have credit cards to use and their parents wouldn’t dream of lending their credit card to their teenagers! And it was simply unheard of for a teenager to have a debit card, or even a checking account for that matter! So if a teenager wanted to buy a ticket to an event they pretty much had to travel to a place that sold the tickets and pay cash for the tickets. And sometimes that meant driving more than an hour to get there just to buy the ticket for an event that might be months away!
That’s one of the amazing things about today. Today many teenagers have debit cards and the Internet gives them access to tickets to just about any and every event you can imagine! Without even leaving their chair they can go online and buy TD Banknorth Garden Tickets, Garth Brooks Tickets, Madison Square Garden tickets, CEASARS PALACE TICKETS, Verizon Center Tickets – you name the place and you can probably get the tickets. Teenagers sure have it easy!
A couple of nights ago I was up late and saw an infomercial about some Golden Oldies CDs being sold by Time Life; the pitch was being done by Bowser of the group Sha Na Na. Sorry to say there was a sales pitch lady there but I don’t remember her name! Anyway, the infomercial inspired me to look up Sha Na Na on YouTube and I found this clip. I wonder what the deal is from Bowser spitting on another band member! What was that about?
One of the things that I love about the Internet is that I can use it for so many reasons. Along with watching television shows and movies, and play games, I use to to send emails (which I love much more than snail mail!) and I can use it to help me find local restaurants and businesses. I can even pick a destination city of someplace that I hope to visit on a vacation and use the Internet to perform a local search to see what activities and businesses are in the area I plan to visit.
I can remember when my wife moved up here over thirty years ago one of the first things she did was call the phone company before she moved and had them mail her a copy of the local yellowpages for her to look through. She said it really helped her to understand the area she was moving into a lot better, knowing what resources were here before she actually arrived!
I do like my chocolate, and when you throw in some peanut butter, all the better for me. I always have a bag of Reese’s Pieces close by to munch on. I just saw on TV that they are coming out with a dark Reese’s peanut butter and chocolate candy bar. I prefer my milk chocolate, but am always willing to try something new, besides they are now saying that dark chocolate is good for you.
You just gotta love how the Internet makes looking at car reviews so much easier. There are many website dedicated to assist consumers with their search for the perfect vehicle. I have been looking at some nice chevy silverado 1500 pics on Thecarconnection.com website that is filled with all the information anyone could ask for on new and used cars. I have always been a Chevy man and I can tell you that they (Chevrolet) is still cranking out some nice looking vehicles. The chevy Volt specs that I stumbled onto there were very interesting and the picture intriguing, to say the least. Check out this 2007 beauty:
I certainly would like to take advantage of the program that has been extended, the Cash for Clunkers program, before it finally comes to an end. A lot of people have taken advantage of this extension and I don’t want to be left out in the cold on the deal. I’m taking this offer seriously and hopefully my tax refund check will go a long way this year and I can use a good portion of it for a decent down payment.
I’ve even taken a gander at the honda element, now you can really fit a good amount of stuff in the back of this sport-utility. I have to say is an unique alternative to the other conventional sport-utility vehicles, with it’s awkward looking boxy shape, along with it’s dent-absorbing plastic body panels, and rear-hinged “suicide” back doors, it’s truly sporty and stands out from all the others. Not sure if that is good or bad in this instance. I do like to be unique but not necessarily standing out from the crowd. The older I get the more I feel the need to blend in most of the times, heck I don’t even want to put any bumper stickers on any of my vehicles any more.
Do you remember Freddy Fender? He actually put out several hits before he died. I was surfing around on YouTube.com and found this Freddy Fender hit and had to put it here as well. We have lost way too many good musicians, only the good die young, or so the saying goes…..
The statistics are indicating that more people are in need of a good quality Private Alcohol Rehab center these days. With the economy in the toilet more people are turning to drugs and alcohol to ease the pain that has been dumped on most of us. The crime rate is on the rise as well due to the economy in crisis. People are getting desperate and we all know that desperate times call for desperate measures.
Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers are opening up all over and doing a booming business. Dr. Drew and his Celebrity Rehab show on VH1 brought the light to a whole lot of people who where and are in need of a good Drug and Alcohol Rehab. It isn’t just our celebrities that are struggling with addiction issues and problems, but seeing them through their struggle was the incentive that a lot of people needed to step up to the plate and get treatment for themselves, pretty cool huh?
The Internet is a great tool to find the best treatment centers and I would urge anyone to take a look around and see what is out there if they know of someone who needs treatment or if they need treatment for their own addictions before it is too late.
It seems that getting a new tattoo is on many people’s minds for the New Year. I have several friends that are now sporting new “Ink” designs that they had done on New Year’s Eve. Each one said that the studio that they went to was packed with people wanting a new tattoo before the year ended, which is something that I just didn’t seem to think about and it surprised me a bit.
One thing that my wife has been trying to convince me about is how ceiling fans help to save energy regardless of the season. She learned that if you buy a reversible ceiling fan that you can change the direction that the propellers spin and that the change in direction helps to keep the place cooler, or helps to keep it warmer. Well I have to admit that I’m not convinced about that but she keeps showing me articles that she found on the Internet that talk about it. But one way or another, keeping the air moving is a good idea because it does help to even out the temperature of the house. And that’s a good thing.
Although Hansen Wholesale Ceiling Fans name implies that they only sell to retailers, they also sell to the individual consumer. They offer free shipping and guarantee the lowest prices on the Internet. I was looking at their site today and saw that they sell Energy Star ceiling fans. I didn’t realize that there even WERE Energy Star ceiling fans! I’ll have to check those out even further!
I’ve always wanted to see the Blue Angels in person. I never have had the good fortune to do so! But I found this video of them on YouTube. Now I want to see them in person even more!
Back in 1993 I had bought a new house and sold my old one. The big problem was that I had to get out of my old house before I could move into my new one! So I had my realtor help me look at some apartments for rent that I could rent on a month to month basis while waiting to move in to my new place.
Up until then I didn’t even know that you could rent an apartment on a month to month basis. When I was younger I had rented an apartment but had to sign a lease for the first year. After the first year’s lease was up then it converted to month to month. I thought that all apartments were like that!
At first I was looking for someone who needed their house babysat while they were out of town for a few months. There seemed to be a lot of people that did that – they got to stay in the house for free, or for very little rent in exchange for being caretakers. But my luck was not that good, and I couldn’t find a place like that.
The place that I ended up renting, though, was an old house that was converted into two apartments. It was right on the Main Street of the little town that I live in now. The place was small, and old, but it worked well enough. And the landlord didn’t care that I had two dogs, so that was great!
I don’t remember even having to sign a lease, it just seemed like a gentleman’s agreement! I just gave the rent check to my realtor every month and it worked out pretty well. I ended up staying there longer than I expected to, but it was OK because there was a place across the street where I could rent video games and get pizza! And what more could a guy want?
One of the things that I always enjoy is seeing a moose out in the wild. Every now and then as I’m driving along, minding my own business I’ll see a moose. Sometimes it is crossing the road in front of me (thank goodness not too close!) but most of the time I see them off the road a little bit. Sometimes I’ll see a bull moose trying to romance a cow during rutting season. That’s always funny and sad at the same time – you know what I mean?
The thing about moose is that they don’t usually RUN across the road like deer do. No, they just take their sweet time and meander, not a care in the world. Woe to the car that plays a game of chicken with a moose! The car loses. Thankfully no one I know has ever struck a moose – that would be serious.
This morning I saw a young moose walking down the middle of our road. It was traveling the same direction I was traveling and it was taking its sweet time. It didn’t phase the youngster one bit to have me tailgating it! So we took our time for probably 300 – 400 feet or so before it decided to turn off into the woods. I’m glad I wasn’t in a big hurry!
My daughter asked me for advice on what to buy her guy for Valentine’s Day. I suggested that she buy him one of the Citizen Eco Drive Men’s Watches for him. I know that they are both very interested in reducing their carbon footprint, and I found that these watches are environmentally friendly. The don’t need batteries – they have a solar cell that charge itself from either solar or indoor light sources. The life expectancy of the solar cell is about five years. I think that would be a pretty decent gift, don’t you?
There is a wide assortment of styles available too. I was looking at all of the different ones on the Internet and found one that I liked a lot. It has a two toned metal strap to it, a perpetual calendar and alarm. I really like the versatility of a two-toned watch. It seems to “go” with everything so that I don’t have to worry about switching back and forth between black and brown straps.
I was surprised, though, that the selection did not show any digital watches – all of the ones that I saw had the old fashioned dial watch face. I found that there was a wide price range on these watches, so it isn’t too difficult to find one to fit any budget.
