One of the “Catch 22″s of this winter is that there is plenty of snow and ice that is keeping all of us that plow and sand for a living busy. But so many people are struggling with their economic problems they are all begging us to lower our rates. It is really hard to lower our rates because the price of gasoline and equipment maintenance keeps going up! My best advice to everyone can only be that they should negotiate an “unlimited service” contract with the company that provides them with their plowing and sanding.

We have gotten so much snow in the past several weeks that there has been no doubt that we will have a white Christmas! In fact, I have a lot of customers that need me to plow out and sand their dooryards to make sure that they are safe for all of their Christmas company! So I will have little time to participate in any Christmas Eve festivities; I will be plowing and sanding all night long! I hope to catch up on my sleep someday!
My nephew gave us his Christmas wish list last weekend. I was surprised to see that he had hip hop jewelry on his list. At first I was rather shocked as I didn’t realize that he was into the hip-hop scene! With a little bit of searching online I managed to find some bling bling that fits our budget that I’m sure he’ll like.
I’ve noticed that whenever the weatherman calls for bad weather that the stores quickly become congested with shoppers who are stocking up on their emergency supplies. Bottled water, toilet paper, batteries, and the like. I find it rather amusing because we always have a good stock of emergency supplies at home. I don’t understand why so many people don’t do the same thing and wait until the day before a storm to panic and run to the store to stock up.
In business, just about everyone knows that time is money. Being punctual can mean the difference between keeping a job or losing it. Face it, there simply are jobs where time is of the essence. Many of the “generation me” folks don’t seem to accept today’s business world. They want to show up for work when they feel like it, and leave when they feel like it. And if they bother to show up for work, they often don’t want to actually work; they want to socialize instead.
Just the thought of these people running the world in about thirty years is frightening! They are too much into instant gratification. They don’t want to stand in line and wait their turn for anything, ever. I think that one of the things that the schools should be teaching kids in high school is the value of time, and how they need to learn to respect that everyones time is valuable, too. And I think that when they graduate from high school, they should be given titanium watches as graduation gifts. These gifts would serve as a reminder that they need to be on time, and stay on track. And just as important, they should not waste time because time is money, and money is in short supply.
