Sometimes a death bed confession is a good thing. Sometimes it can go awry! It’s a good thing because it can help people get closure when they have been victimized. And it is supposedly a good thing to clear the conscience. I think that too many people rely on death bed confessions as their ticket to heaven, though, hoping that a full confession for forgiveness will clear the slate with the powers that be. This gives them “permission” to keep their sins a secret until the last minute, which I think is a bad thing! Anyway, the whole reason for this post is an article on the bbc.com website that I read about a man in Oklahoma who had a stroke and thought he was on his death bed so he called the police to the hospital and confessed to a 32 year old murder. Well, the man survived, and now he will be tried for murder. I guess his plot to avoid the consequences of killing someone didn’t quite go as planned!
