I was just reading an article on the Time.com website that a daycare staffer took a container that had fluid in it that looked like blue Kool-Aid from the refrigerator and served it to several young children in the daycare center. The children were hospitalized because the fluid was actually windshield wiper fluid! I’m totally shocked – how and why did the stuff end up in the refrigerator? Can’t the person who was putting away groceries read? I understand that the fluid is blue, but there would have been pictures on the container to reflect that it was NOT Kool-Aid! Probably pictures of a car and windshield wipers! I understand that the lady who ran the daycare center has surrendered her daycare license, and the kids should be okay; it’s just a terrible shame! A senseless error, thank goodness no one died!

Flags are symbols. They may be a symbol of a religion, a country, or a company. They are a communication tool. I get very angry when I see television news coverage showing people burning other country’s flags. I think it is extremely disrespectful to do that. I’ve always been brought up to respect other people and other countries. We may not agree with what the leaders of other countries may be doing, but to burn the flag that symbolizes the entire county is not going to improve the situation at all!
I can remember as a child, saying the pledge of allegiance every morning in school. I used to get goosebumps when we said the pledge. I don’t know why; I just did. There have been a lot of times in my life that I have been disappointed, even angry at some of the dirty tricks that some of our country’s leaders have pulled. The way the leaders treated the American Indian, and the Japanese Americans during WWII, and more recently the prisoners at Gitmo are nothing short of disgraceful. I can understand why many people in many countries would become disillusioned with our entire country over events such as these. Yes, our leaders have made many errors, but I have hope that with our newly elected leaders that people will start to take pride in our American flag once again.
