My wife and I love roses. I think that this is a very difficult climate for roses to thrive in, however. Our winters are cold and long, and we have to cover the roses in the winter to protect them. We always worry during the winter about whether or not the roses have survived the winter. Most springs we are disappointed to find that only about half of the roses have survived. So we go out and buy a few more rose bushes in the spring to plant them, always hopeful that they will last a long time, but realizing that they probably will not live very long.
One of the things that makes roses even more frustrating is the difficulty in controlling the pests that like to eat them! We’ve tried the Japanese Beetle lures to get rid of the Japanese Beetles, but to be honest we’ve been really disappointed in the results. Sure, the bags fill up with bugs, but there still are a lot of bugs on the roses! And the lures are very unsightly, something we don’t like to look at when we look at our gardens.
We’ve decided to look into organic methods of trying to control the pests in our gardens this year. So we have been looking for organic pest control info on the Internet and found that there is a spray we can use that will kill a variety of garden pests, including Japanese Beetles. The spray is called Bug Patrol, by Safer. We’re going to give that a try and see how well it works this year.
