I have a wealthy client that is in poor health.  When I go to plow and sand his dooryard, he always invites me in for a bagel and coffee.  I’ve found that when I do that he often gives me more jobs to do, so it is always a good idea to stop in and see him!  I’ve done a lot of landscaping work for him, putting in walkways and walls and fences and shrubs, and garden beds.  Anyway, the last time I stopped in to see him he told me that his doctor sent him to physical therapy, which involved him doing Aquatic therapy exercises in Swim spa.  He said that he enjoyed it so much that he wants to buy one of the indoor Hydrotherapy pools  to put in his house.

The only drawback, of course, was that he currently does not have a room in his house to put the pool.  So he was showing me the blueprints to put on the addition to his house that he is going to need to put the spa.   He told me that he remembered my telling him that I suffer from arthritis from time to time, and he told me that if I helped him with some of the remodeling work he needs done later this year that he would be glad to let me use the pool when my arthritis is kicking up!

Well, I thought that was tremendously generous of him to offer me access to his pool!  He was showing me pictures of what he plans to get; it is a real corker!

I was reading the yahoo news and saw a story about a baby boy in India was married to his neighbor’s dog , Jyoti, recently in an attempt to ward off evil spirits and to protect the baby boy from being eaten by wild animals.  According to the article, the baby, who is under the age of two had sprouted a tooth.  Supposedly this is a bad omen for his tribe, and so his tribe married him to the dog to protect the village and the boy from the bad luck that this new tooth is feared to bring.  Well, this was really odd in so many ways!  If I recall correctly, all of the babies in our families have at least one tooth by the time they are eighteen months old.  So this is just weird beyond weird.  Fortunately for the groom, he will be allowed to marry a human bride when he is older without having to divorce Jyoti.  How bizarre, how bizarre!

My wife and I have been trying a few different products to whiten our teeth.  Most of the ones we have tried have only resulted in our gums hurting like crazy!  We’ve spoken to our dentist about our desire to have whiter teeth, and he just “pooh-poohs” us.  He says that everybodys teeth yellow with age.  He also says that people with thick enamel (which is good for teeth) have yellower teeth than those people who have thin enamel (which is bad for teeth.)  He says that really white teeth really is not a good sign of dental health!  Well, we took comfort in that information for a while, but it still bothers my wife that when she smiles in the mirror her teeth look yellow.

I just found out about a process in cosmetic dentistry called dental veneers. Dental veneers have been around for twenty years, but I just heard about them for the first time today.   I ran into the wife of an old friend of mine at the local coffee shop and she was telling me about how she was looking into having it done.  She explained that it is painless and permanent and safe.  So my wife and I are going to look into it too!

I was reading an article on the Time.com website that was reporting on the recent theory put forth by psychologists that mixed-race children are better adjusted than single-race children. I found that article to be very interesting. I’m not sure that I agree with it, but I did find it interesting. I have known several people in my life that have a mixed-race background and have not found them to be any better, or worse, adjusted than the single-raced people that I have known.

I do know from my own observations of family and friends that there still is a lot of bigotry going on. I’m not defending it; in fact I abhor it, but I have observed that there still is a lot of bigotry going on. The article in the Time.com website stated that we are approaching a time when we (the US) will all be celebrating our multi-racial pride. I don’t think that is going to happen in my lifetime!  I’d like to see it, but I think that the bigotry is still too entrenched in too many families.  And bigotry is something taught from parent to child, so it is very difficult to eradicate.

I have been noticing with much interest when the news talks about airfares going up and down in response to the economy.  I’m sure that the airlines are walking a very fine line.  They need to fill their seats and turn a profit, but if they charge too much money for their flights the customers simply won’t fly. And I keep hearing about how some airlines are trying to save money by not offering drinks or snacks, or make more money by charging fees for baggage.  It used to be that airlines let you check two suitcases for free, and now some of them are charging for every single bag that you check.

Now I’m hearing that the airlines are cutting their rates again in an attempt to fill their seats.  I wonder how long those cheap flights are going to last! My daughter wants to take a vacation soon and we like to use United Airlines when we fly because we find that their flight schedule is the most convenient for us most of the time.  And we also find that the planes are comfortable and have fewer transfers and layovers than most of the other airlines that service our area.
