Well, Memorial Day weekend of 2008 is officially over at our house. We had a quiet, but nice three day weekend. All three day weekends are nice! I cooked a couple of GREAT steaks on the grill, my wife fixed a really nice salad, some corn on the cob, and nuked some potatoes in the microwave. Had some fresh baked yeast dinner rolls, and strawberry shortcake for dessert! I can’t even TRY to imagine a nicer meal! I’d like to have meals like that EVERY weekend! My wife enjoys them too because she likes it when I cook on the grill. I grill a pretty mean steak! And, she says she likes it because there is less mess for her to have to clean up after supper because I’m the one that cleans the grill!

I bought a new glider with fancy pads to sit on and a cover over the top that moves with the glider when you sit in it. I scored some major points with my wife on this one! She was a little bit upset with what I spent on the grill, but it didn’t seem to bother her hardly at all when she saw the new glider on the deck! She likes to sit out there at night and watch the sunset and hold hands. (She’s like that!) I don’t mind, but it just seems like I always got a lot to do and I can’t get out there but now I’m making more time for her because I can spend more time in the winter working on my hot rod and I can’t sit out on the deck during the winter time.
I bought a new grill, it’s one of the best you can buy. If someone had asked me if I was going to buy one of these new Sunbeam grills, stainless steel, three burners, a sink, storage area, and a place to hold two tanks (which makes it heavy, which is why I added extra support to my deck) I would have have told them they were crazy! I also bought a nice heavy duty cover for it. I think the grill will last a lot longer if it is covered up between uses. All my friends have a cover for their grill. I also will be cleaning it twice as much as I ever cleaned a grill before. I found out you can just spray it with some chemical that you can buy at the hardware store now and rinse it down with a hose and it makes it look like brand new again.
The water is extremely high this year, so when I put my dock in, I’m going to have to adjust it way up. It looks like I’ll have to readjust my dock two or three times this year, but that is one of the nice things about it; it’s adjustable. I’ve never seen the water so high as this year! Obviously it’s because we’ve had so much rain. I noticed that a lot of stuff has drifted in from other places and I’m going to have to fish some of that stuff out of the water. I hope that the high water hasn’t affected the fishing out in front of my place! But, the water is so great to look at that I don’t mind whatever I have to do to adjust to it.
I’ve had my boat since 1999; it’s a nice boat, I keep it well, but the sun has faded the exterior because for several years I didn’t have a place to keep it under cover. (Now I do.) I just paid it off two years early and I really can’t afford a new one, but the dealership is going to give me really good money for it towards a new one, and believe it or not the payments are $30 less a month (of course for additional years!) but it will be worth it to me as I can keep it under cover! I can’t wait!
