Archive for March, 2008

Well, the road is getting muddier by the minute.  A lot of camp roads are closed because of the mud is so soft, and a lot of the public roads are posted against heavy trucks.  One of the good things about this time of year, however, is Maine Maple Sunday.  Last Sunday we went to a few of the local Sugar Shacks and had samples of the fresh Maine Maple Syrup over vanilla ice cream, and free samples of their maple candy.  I’m glad the weather cooperated for that – I love doing the Maine Maple Syrup route every March!

Boy the fog has been thick the past two days!  Welcome to spring!  The first two days of spring it’s been so foggy that it has been like driving through pea soup!  Saw a lot of cars run off the road because they couldn’t see where they were going!  Living here sure can be a challenge this time of year!  The potholes and frost heaves are getting really bad, which makes it even more challenging in the fog because you can’t see them until you are right on top of them!  I wish I was in Florida right about now!

Well, daylight savings time started last Sunday, and it has been a really rough week getting adjusted to it!  My body does NOT adapt well to changes like that.  I wish they would just pick a time and stick to it!  It is supposed to snow all day today, so I guess we will lay low and not go out today.  Why bother to go out in it if we don’t have to?  Although, if we DO have to go out in it, we’ll be fine, since we have AWD and 4 studded snow tires.  I think that must have been one of the smartest purchases we’ve ever made!

I am suffering from cabin fever this weekend, and I want to eat breakfast out this morning.  When my wife wakes up a little bit later this morning I think I’m going to tell her to not eat her usual morning cereal and toast, to just get dressed and let’s go out to eat breakfast at the Augusta House of Pancakes.  I really like their prices and specials, and the wait staff is efficient and friendly.  I hope she wakes up soon – if she’s not awake by 7am, I think I’ll wake her up!  While we’re out, we’ll pick up a copy of the Sunday paper and see what great bargains there might be in the coupon and sale flyer sections.

We have had so much snow over the past few days that it has finally reached the bottoms of our windowsills.  I had to rake the snow off of the roof this weekend, boy am I sore!  I wanted to climb up on the roof to shovel it off, but my wife got all worried about me falling off and killing myself, so I had to resort to the horrible roof rake, which is a pain in the neck to use!  We’re going to have to get some of this snow hauled off, it has gotten to the point where we can’t push it any further back, and our driveway and dooryard are getting too filled in.
